Coach Maolu Woiwor brings over 21 years of wrestling experience and a deep commitment to excellence and character development to his role as Head Coach and Founder of Maverick Training Center.

As an athlete, Coach Maolu had an outstanding career at the nationally renowned Apple Valley High School, where he achieved multiple titles, including 3x Minnesota State Champion, Cheesehead Champion, 4x Team State Champion, and member of the Undisputed National Championship Apple Valley wrestling team.

Transitioning into coaching, he began his career under Minnesota’s winningest wrestling coach, Jim Jackson, at Shakopee High School. Coach Maolu quickly gained recognition for leading practices, inspiring athletes, and building strong relationships with wrestlers and their families. At Maverick, he has developed a robust training system focused on a wide range of attacks from the feet, high-level situational mat wrestling, mental toughness, and positional fundamentals.

Under his leadership, he has produced 2 high school team state championships, 7 individual state champions, 10 Fargo All-Americans, and 6 Division 1 wrestlers. On the youth level, he has coached over 50 state champions, 25+ national champions, and many All-Americans. His coaching philosophy emphasizes not only athletic skill but also personal growth, instilling values such as self-discipline, respect, gratitude, perseverance, and humility.

Beyond his role as a coach, Coach Maolu is a mentor and role model dedicated to shaping well-rounded individuals with a lifelong passion for wrestling and a strong sense of community.

In his personal time, Coach Maolu enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, playing pickleball, and staying active.
